Department of African American Studies

Dedicated to the histories, cultures, and political movements of Black communities across the United States and the wider African diaspora, African American Studies at Emory University pursues academic excellence and social responsibility through interdisciplinary scholarship, transformational pedagogy, and engagement with local, national, and international communities of African descent.

We are seeking additional funding to support enhanced programming for students—to enlarge our space so that it can continue to be a respite for them, to support those seeking to participate in studying abroad, and to cover student travel and lodging expenses for academic conferences.

We have helped several students pay for books for classes and also funded research trips and travel for students to present at conferences both domestically and internationally. We also hope to support faculty research and community outreach.
