Voices of Inner Strength

The Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir, directed by the Emory University Office of Spiritual and Religious Life (OSRL), is Emory's longstanding and dynamic gospel choir. We welcome all who desire to praise God with song and serve as taught in God's Word. The choir began with a concert on April 21, 1985 that included a homily by celebrated Civil Rights leader and minister, the Reverend C.T. Vivian.

VOIS offers campus concerts, participates in worship services and university events, and performs acts of community service. We host a Soul Food Gospel Fest during Black History Month, which draws gospel choirs from across the state of Georgia. This event grows every year. All funds go towards enhancing these experiences as they continue to grow in complexity and attendance.

"VOIS was one of the first places where I truly felt a sense of belonging, community, and fellowship at Emory. VOIS was my family on campus and challenged me to grow spiritually and as a person. Years from now, I might not remember the lyrics to the songs we’ve sang, but I will remember the warmth and community I felt when I sang with my VOIS family."
