The Emory Global Health Institute (EGHI) works at the intersection of education, research, and practice to achieve global health impact. Since its founding in 2006, more than 5,500 Emory students and 450 faculty from across 57 departments and nine schools have participated in EGHI experiential and innovative programs.
EGHI Fund for Excellence advances Emory’s global health priorities by uniting learners and leaders in the Emory community, connecting diverse partners and disciplines, and advancing research excellence to inform public health policy & practice. EGHI funds Emory faculty global health research and has awarded more than $8M with a 13:1 return on investment to bring Emory eminence to some of the most pressing challenges facing the world. EGHI investments inform critical research, policy, and public health recommendations to address priority topics including - maternal and child health, emergency preparedness and response, environmental impacts on health, and the highest burden chronic and infectious diseases in underserved communities.
Global Health Scholars Program, EGHI’s flagship student initiative, prepares students to meaningfully contribute to priority global health research under the direction of Emory faculty. Since 2008, over 400 students have participated in peer-to-peer research with partners in more than 60 countries. From evaluating the incidence and risk of new-onset diabetes in individuals with long-COVID in the United States to understanding gender disparities in tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment outcomes in India, students work in multidisciplinary teams, develop cross-cultural literacy skills, and participate in priority research to advance global health equity at home and around the world.
