The Emory Global Perioperative Alliance (EGPA) is a medical student-led, faculty-supervised organization within the Emory University School of Medicine whose mission is to provide essential medical and surgical services to under-resourced regions around the world. Our multidisciplinary team of students, nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, ophthalmologists, internists, and OBGYNs work closely with local providers and organizations to provide life-saving care, engage in collaborative educational programs, and build long-lasting healthcare infrastructure.
Our growing team led a success pilot trip to Sololá, Guatemala in June 2022, completing over 60 general surgeries, 31 ophthalmologic surgeries, 6 OBGYN surgeries, and caring for over 750 patients in clinic over a 10-day period. Due to the success of last year’s endeavor, we are planning and fundraising to return to Guatemala in June 2023 with an even bigger team. All of the funds received through this campaign will be used to fund our upcoming surgical trip to Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The costs associated with these trips are significant, and include medical supplies, medications, support staff, and team travel. By reaching our goal, Emory can continue its tradition of providing free medical and surgical care to communities in Guatemala with the greatest need, and advance its mission of leading safe, equitable healthcare both at home and abroad.
Donations to this group will be reflected as "Surgery Education Medical Missions."
