This spring, 21 students, faculty, and neurological residents in Emory’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will travel to St. Elizabeth Parish in rural Jamaica to provide necessary physical therapy services to individuals with neurologic injuries. By partnering with a local community organization, Friends of the Redeemer United (ForU) Rehabilitation Center, the students will be paired with a local Jamaican who seeks the opportunity to improve their physical function and quality of life through this five-day intensive program. The rehabilitation services the students will provide include tailored gait and balance training, strengthening, activity modification, home assessments, community reintegration, and patient and family education.
You can help improve the quality of life for those living with neurological conditions by supporting our annual service-learning trip where we fulfill ForU clinic’s mission to provide vital health services to this underserved community. Your crucial gift will be used by our rehabilitation team to implement our intensive 5-day long neuro clinic for the underserved population of St. Elizabeth Parish. Your donation will be used towards the purchase of treatment supplies, durable medical equipment, sustainable home modifications, and trip-related costs for our team. When paired with physical therapy services, this equipment can make a lasting impact on the patients we serve, as well as their families, friends, and community.
