Cycling is a great way of moving to and around Emory, but there is little direct support for students, staff, and faculty who want to do so. Many external groups around Atlanta organize social rides, but none happen regularly around the Emory campus. Bike shops are few and far between, and for the most part their services take too long and are too expensive, particularly for students.
Emory Spokes Council exists to help make cycling more accessible for graduate students across all Emory divisions. We provide cycling opportunities to empower students to go out and ride and belong to a community. We organize monthly social rides around Atlanta and run a cooperative bike shop twice a week for students and other members of the Emory family. Our cooperative bike shop provides parts, tools, and guidance for free to students, ensuring that they can keep their bikes safe and functional.
The funds we raise will be used to purchase parts and upgrade some of our tools. We will also use the funding to purchase snacks for the open shop time, and for meals and snacks for our monthly rides.
