Grey Matters Emory is a neuroscience outreach organization dedicated to shedding light on the field as one that anyone can approach, inquire, and discuss. Every semester, we publish an interdisciplinary neuroscience journal issue of all undergraduate student-produced articles, art, and media with the goal of dismantling the intimidating stigma attached to neuroscience — we hope to foster an environment where STEM and non-STEM students alike feel empowered to engage in scientific literature and knowledge. We believe accurate scientific education should be available to everyone, regardless of educational background; our journal issues aim to both spark interest in neuroscience and make it easier for readers to participate in meaningful discussions about various neuroscience-related topics.
To further our goal of providing ample opportunities to the Emory student body we would use the additional funds to facilitate events that would allow students to further their interest in neuroscience. Additionally, being a novel chapter of Grey Matters we are still sourcing funds to print physical copies of our journal, that we would then strategically place over campus (in the NBB department, in the Psychology department, the Visual Arts Building) to not only encourage students to contribute, but in hopes that they will read the journal and discover their interest in the interdisciplinary nature of the field.
