Doctor of Physical Therapy Jamaica Service Trip

This year, students from the Advanced Adult Neurorehabilitation class in Emory's Doctor of Physical Therapy Program will be traveling to St. Elizabeth Parish in rural Jamaica to provide necessary physical therapy services to individuals who have suffered from neurological injuries (i.e., strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries). We are partnering with a local community organization, Friends of the Redeemer United (ForU) Rehabilitation Center to provide a week-long intensive camp to improve functional mobility and quality of life for these patients. These services include tailored gait and balance training, strengthening, activity modification, home assessment, community reintegration, and patient and family education. In addition to physical therapy services, we will be providing home modifications and adaptive equipment in order to provide sustainable changes for these individuals. Join us in helping to provide quality health care for an underserved population.
